Mountains and Water

You Tube wouldn't let me use the song I picked, so don't judge me too harshly on this generic music. The mountains and water and company were anything but generic. It was fabulous in every respect. Come again Bluths and let's do it again! Even the bike ride, right????

Steve and Tates and Lanx jumping into the Eibsee Lake in Garmisch. It was FREEZING. Probably glacier run-off. I have tons more to share but this should whet your appetite!

MORRISTOWN, NJ, USA

Steve got his mission call: MORRISTOWN, NEW JERSEY, USA.
It's perfect for Steve. We all feel it. Congratulations to Steve-o!
This call has enabled our family to pull off a miracle. We are going to have an official HERWAY FAMILY REUNION, just prior to his entering the MTC on Sept 23.
We have been trying to pull this off for 3 years now. And Steve's call has made it happen. Cool thing; because he will be serving in NJ, we can just plan to pick him up and have another reunion at REHOBOTH BEACH DELAWARE in 2011. Superb.
Natalie asked for a map of the area of his mission boundaries. I tried, really I did. Just know that NJ divides nicely into two halves and his is the Northern half, with a very small slice of NY state along the Hudson River. The largest city is Newark and it's sprawling suburbs. He'll have plenty of work to do.
His Mission Pres is Lee Bahr who is a Neuroradiologist and he and his wife have 15 children! Wow.
So Steve has been Called to Serve. We are mighty proud of him!

SEPTEMBER 23rd

At tennis yesterday we played 2 hours, then had a farewell luncheon for one of our team members, Ruth. My mormon friend Roz was sitting next to me: "What's the news on Steve's call?"
"Don't know."
"I think you should call. Maybe they need info, or you are supposed to reply to the first letter, etc."
I thought about it the remainder of the day. And put in yet another call to the missionary department.
"Are we just waiting for another letter, or do we respond to the 1st letter?"
"Let me see. Loren Herway? Oh, I sent out the packet yesterday"
"Oh, great!" and then it blurted out of my mouth, "Can I ask the departure date?" (She realized I meant the date he would report to the MTC)
"Sure!" click, click on the computer. "That would be Aug 12th."
"Aug 12?"
"yes"
"Are you sure?"
"yes"
"uh,oh,um, but his availability date wasn't until Aug 19th."
"Oh. I see that. OK, no problem. We'll just switch that to the next transfer date." click. click. "OK, that will be.....SEPTEMBER 23RD."
I couldn't breathe.
"September 23rd?"
"yes"
"100% sure? No changes?"
"Yes. I'm changing it right now." click, click. "You'll get this notice of date change a couple of days after the packet arrives. Good-bye."

That was it. I was beside myself with amazement and joy and almost unbelief! The date I have been begging the Lord for, and He blesses us ALL with that date.

So after THREE years of trying to get everyone together. It is going to happen! Not one single member will be missing. Natalie and family arriving from Texas, Jake and family arriving from North Carolina, Tom and I flying in from Brussels to SLC to put Steve in the MTC, Nicole just off her mission from Paris, and Steve just prior to his mission to....(to be determined when that letter that was mailed yesterday arrives!) Dan and family, and Seth and family live in SLC area but will get wisked away from their lives and jobs so we can all be together for nearly 48 hours.
I think I've died and gone to heaven!!!

Far Away by Tom Herway

Steve did the editing. Dad and the Greens in action. Tom always has these songs in his head, and this one the Greens were able to help him get it in full production. Enjoy!

Mr. Mole

Remember the mole that Tom and Tommy were trying to catch? Well, he did a lot more damage to the yard. Tom's method of drowning him didn't quite work.
I went to Brico and talked to the salesperson. He gave me some garlic bulbs to plant and said that the mole wouldn't like the smell and would leave. So I spent hours in the yard planting these expensive bulbs.
Mr. Mole would just toss them out of his holes. There would be this big mound of fresh dirt with the garlic bulb on the top. Hmpfh.
So my latest idea is to take fresh garlic and toss that into his holes. Same thing. New mound of dirt and the garlic thrown on top.
Any ideas out there? Our yard looks like a mine field. He sure is a pesky little guy. Or maybe he is not alone. I bet he has all his relatives out there with him.
