no camera
Man, I feel robbed. Oh, I guess I was! It's hard not to have a camera....and not to have my laptop b/c with only one computer in the house, it seems to always be busy! Besides, I liked being outside or someplace other than in the computer room to get online. Oh well.
It's been tons of fun with the Herway's here. We went to Hofstead park a couple of times and they were in heaven. Water and fish and beach and an adventure playground. Fun! We took them downtown and they liked the Grand Place and the waffles and chocolates. We went to Villars Abby where they could climb and hunt and discover to their heart's content. We took them to Dad's work for lunch and see the 'Z' building (for Zane of course). We have eaten lots of candy and popsicles. (I must refer you to Lara's blog for pictures.....sigh!)
We only have one day left. They are looking forward to seeing their aunt and uncle in london. Then they have a jam packed summer still ahead...Hebgen lake and Lake Powell and who knows what else. I will miss them.
I have to say it's been an amazing, amazing, couple of months with the Portugals, and 3 Herway families coming to visit, and Nicole coming for the whole summer. How do I thank you all? It's truly been a gift from each of your families that I will always cherish. 2010. Never to be forgotten. Thanks, thanks! I love you all!

A True Belgian Experience
I was reading this morning Elder Benar's talk about 'Watching with All Perseverance'. "Spiritual warnings should lead to increasingly vigilant watching. You and I live in 'a day of warning'. (DC 63:58). Apostle Paul admonished , 'watching with all perseverance'. Also he quoted from the Word of Wisdom: In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you.
It really hit home, because we had an episode last night where we were caught NOT vigilantly watching. And we were caught by the evils and designs of conspiring men. Around 1am I was in a deep sleep (and I can really go into a deep sleep!) but I was awakened by some noise, and then in my stupor of thought, I detected laughing and walking and the beams from small flashlights. I raised up on my elbow and right at that moment a beam from a flashlight went straight onto my face! We had robbers in the house! But I couldn't focus fast enough. I really thought it was Nicole or maybe her friends??? Anyway, I got out of bed and threw on a robe and walked out into the house. By then I was alert and I started to get scared. I could still hear some scurrying feet. But they were just out the door at that point.
(What did I see when they flashed the light on my face? All I could see was a striped T-shirt. And about 3 young adult men. They only laughed so I didn't hear any specific language.)
I called up to Nicole who was still awake and at the computer. She heard noises as well but thought it was Dad up getting a drink of water or something. We all were canvasing the house to see what the damage was. Turns out they stole the laptop, the camera, and a projector (that belonged to the church). Nicole called the police and they came over and we think they came in through the front picture window. Because it is really hot here, we leave the windows cracked, thinking it was sate. However, after fooling with the door, we realized you could slip your finger on the inside just a bit to loosen the lock of the stationary door and then force the whole door open.
We made out the police report and finished about 2am.
So this talk by Elder Bednar had quite the impact this morning. Sometimes we can get complacent about our spiritual safety as well. I had to ask myself if the Savior came today, would I be caught by surprise? Am I in a deep spiritual sleep and don't recognize warnings? Am I vigilant enough about my spiritual safety? I was completely unprepared to be robbed of temporal things. Am I completely unprepared spiritually, could I be robbed of the blessings I so desperately desire???
So I DO feel blessed. Even though we were robbed, we were unhurt. Things can be replaced. But we will be more vigilant about our windows, that's for sure! And I hope I will be more vigilant about my spiritual safety as well!

Le Tour
It's still the beginning of the Tour, but we were lucky enough to have it in our 'backyard' so to speak. The first day started in Rotterdam and ended near the Atomium. That's where these photos were taken. Actually this was a biker that was ahead of the pack. The police were telling him to get off the streets. He was flashing a badge of some sort, but it wasn't getting him anywhere. Finally they got him off the streets, but he was ticked. Provided lots of entertainment for the 100's of people that were lining the streets waiting for the real bikers to pass by!
The second day of the tour began at the Cinquantenaire. Colie and I took the metro downtown and stood on the overpass and when they rode by, if we would have stuck out our arms they would have touched the bikers. Amazing they let fans get so close to the athletes, while they are performing!
And more sport news: Will Germany win against Spain tonight? I'm voting for the Netherlands on Sunday no matter who wins tonight!

The Great Forest
We found a fern forest where the ferns are as high as your waist. The kids could hide and you really couldn't find them! Awww, Scarlet loves her Daddy.
We borrowed a bike for Daphne to give the ramps a 'go'. We didn't steal the bike from the kid. We were nicer than the kids who stole Steve's bike from him in the exact same situation.

Olivia, Zach, and Lullaby & Goodnight
Happy fish owners: Our fish are named Olivia (Ollie) and Zach (ZZ) and Lullaby and Good-night (they are twins)
Our lady was able to get the fish that each of them wanted. I mean, in a tank of several hundred fish, just how do you do that?
The workers before the ponds were cleaned. All their clothes were in the rooms where Brauer and their Mom were sleeping so I found big T-shirts of mine they could wear. It's a dirty, nasty job but they were happy to make a nice home for their new fish. PS. They had just flown in this morning. These are jet-lagged kids working this hard!!!
