Fun Week-End
Sorry no pictures. However, Tom and I decided to go to Bonn (Plittersdorf) on the spur of the moment. I booked a hotel on the Rhine, just south of Plittersdorf. The hotel was called 'Hotel Dreesen' and wow what a history:
Opened on 3 May 1894. Catered to wealthy clientele because the area was a spa town. Some of the aristocracy and statesmen who have stayed there: Dwight D. Eisenhower, Mikhail Gorbachev, Henry Kissenger, every Pres and every chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. Some of the celebrities: Charlie Chaplin, Danny Kaye.
In 1926, Adolf Hitler stayed there, still a stateless writer in those days. Then in 1938, he and Neville Chamberlain held preliminary talks on the Munich Pact there.
During the 2nd world war, the hotel served as an internment camp for 100 diplomats. In 1945, all of Bad Godesberg was handed over to the Americans without a fight...that is when Dwight D. Eisenhower stayed there for a week. It was released from occupation in 1952. After refurbishment the hotel opened in 1952. Now that the government has relocated to Berlin, they lost 100% of their guests...but now it's open to the lowly citizens like Tom and me!
We walked the Rhein River path most of the evening. Found a quaint German restaurant and we had probably the best German meal I have ever had. Spetzle and pork in a mushroom sauce. Fresh veggies. Every bite was, "UMMMMM"....one of those meals where you don't want to talk b/c you are concentrating on the celebration your tastebuds are having.
The next day we rented bikes and rode up to Bonn. Did some shopping and biked back.
One of those things you can do as an empty -nester. Keep working at it kids!!!

Easter Time
The flowers are hyacinths....even though we were outside, it smelled like a flower shop. Powerful and fabulous!
Easter Time in Europe is notoriously cold. This year didn't disappoint! Frightfully cold. We still had fun and some sun. We brought bikes and toured Kinderdyke. We love having everyone here.....(the wind does stop after a bit, sorry for the lousy filming, but hey in Holland it's windy!)

Water, by Rachel Herway
Rachel wrote this non-fiction article about water. Please comment:
Water is so loveabull it is so helpfull too. We need water for: drinking, taking a bath, to live. and it can make: mud, snow, sleet, hail, rain. All of those things are fun to play in.
If there was no such thing of water,..we would die. We do not only need trees...but a tree needs water. All kinds of plants need water.
and water is nothing, so it an go with everything. If we need to get it cold, we could get some ice. Water can evaporate (go up into the air)and go in a cloud and then it rains. And that is called the water cycel. First, evaporation. Second, condensation. Last precipatation. And water brings rain drops with all sizes. It can be an ovel, a heart, circle, and teardrop.
