Family High/Low 2012
Natalie Portugal
Highs: tori joining our family! And I was very grateful that
Bryn and isa have welcomed her with so much love.
Hospital stay covered at 100%
All my visitors: mom, dad, colie, gma. Really loved our trip to
the beach. Perfect!
And thanksgiving was fabulous
Noel getting offered jobs without seeking them out. Makes me
feel secure in this economy. I'm proud of my husband and glad that others see
what I see
Lows: horrible morning sickness
preeclampsia
unplanned c-section and the 6 week recovery
Noel traveling so much
Funny how your high and low can kind of be the same thing

Low: Paying out-of-state tuition this whole bloomin' year.
Bronchitis/asthma.
High: Qualifying for in-state tuition my last semester of grad
school. Trip to Bellagio with Mom & Dad. Trip to the Dolomites with Mom.
Being close to Tori & Levi while they were newborns. Last Christmas at home
in Belgium.

Mostly highs come to mind. That's got to be a good thing.
Highs for 2012 -
1. Two new grandchildren (Tori and Levi), who look darling
on Skype. I hope to spend more time with them in person real soon.
2. Visiting Utah, Texas, California and New Jersey in one
grand tour in May and June to make sure the kids and grandkids all are doing
well. "Kids" includes son and daughters in law by the way. I
love you all. Keep up the good work!
3. Discussing where to retire with Anita. An ongoing
source of revelation and inspiration.
4. Living with Anita Packer. That should maybe be #1.
5. Kyle Van Noy in the Poinsettia Bowl. Mark my
words, S.T. You will tell your grandchildren that you were there for that
amazing performance.
6. Living, working, and traveling in Europe, including
seeing a few new places this year. They are getting really hard to find
after 24 years,
7. When kids come home and our house is full again.
I miss that a lot.
8. My Church calling.
Lows -
1. Going back to work after vacations. Take it one
day at a time.
2. Mitt losing. He is an amazing man. He would
have been a great President.
3. An ocean separating me from those I love most, except
of course Anita.
Happy New Year!
Dan and Lara
Dan and I were talking about the high/low this morning. We can't
come up with a respectable low because we have been so immensely blessed with
the birth of our precious, healthy, darling baby boy. Mr. Levi is here and he
has completed our family. We definitely had lows this year but it's hard to
remember them when we hold our sweet baby. A sense of peace has always filled
out home after the birth of a child, but this time around feels extra special.
I personally think it is because I have experienced a new sense of JOY with the
knowledge that I will never have to be pregnant, ever again.
Here's to a Lucky 2013!!

Did Seth reply this? We haven't discussed but I'd say one
low/high was the combo of getting our stuff stolen and then getting it back
again!
Other highs included having all our family members (minus
grandparents) visit Coronado this year, wearing shorts and flip flops til
October, watching Taft start and love preschool, Seth hit his halfway through
residency mark, Lukie learning to talk, Trick or treating (seriously one of my
favorite moments as a parent to date), aaaand.....I think we just had a good
year. Minus the three days of post-election depression that overcame us both.

Highs:
Cherry blossoms in DC, Easter in Brussels, getaway in Venice, rock climbing
with Jake, Rehoboth for the Fourth, Disneyland with my whole family...basically
getting away from routine life and enjoying time with the people I like most in
this world.
Low:
Turning 30. We were really fortunate to have such a good and healthy year
with little to complain about

Highs:
I loved coming home from work every day this year. I love
that my boys are at an age where they are excited to see me and want to wrestle
ALL the time. Like I really love that.
Lots of visitors both family and friends
My new paddleboard
Sunny weather
Riley Nelson ending his BYU career on his back in the endzone
after one last pick-6. I enjoyed that more than KVN's heroics.
Lows:
- Working all day every day with people who are so fat that they
have a 'disability' and will fund the rest of their lives by living off of
everyone else. Their disability typically is a bad back, bad knees or
just being fat.
- Working all day every day with people who have a disability
for a thousand other reasons and are living off of everyone else when they are
fully capable of doing hundreds of different kinds of jobs.
- Working every day providing tax payer funded health care to
border jumpers, people living here illegally etc.etc. knowing that me and my
children are going to be paying for it.
-This list could go on but then it was all made much worse when
the American people decided to re-elect comrade Obama who has already and is
going to continue to exacerbate the problem.
- This was then worsened by having to listen to upper white
middle class people tell me we have a duty to these people when they don't
understand these people at all other than seeing them on TV shows or from their
car windows or kind of having met a couple of them once and/or having the same
people tell me that this is not a big issue because we spend a lot more of our
money on other things. PS just because you're mortgage is your biggest
expense doesn't mean you don't try to cut down on your grocery bill.
- Realizing one day I'll be all by myself in a cabin in Montana
with a shotgun yelling at people to "get off my damn property".
Jacob Herway
High: trips with Melanie - Italy, Poconos, NYC.
High: discovering the garden state by bike. Riding the CA coast
and Emigration canyon back to back. I was very happy to ride again.
Low: it seems to always be work. Do I really care that much
about what I do Monday through Friday? Sweat of thy brow is no fiction. My low
point was my manager not living up to my expectations, on multiple
fronts. I'll eat those words one day when I manage...thankfully he was
replaced, and 2013 has new possibilities.
Steve Herway
High:
Falling in Love with Felicia
Low:
Year round school and getting completely bummed
Transportation frustration: $250 nap at BRU airport
Bus drivers who deserve their bus windows broken
Anita Herway
High:
Tori, Levi, first time to Snowmobile, Dolomites, Berlin, Juicer,
Summer visits to see All the family, Thanksgiving in Austin with Mom. Mitt making Mormons more known and
accepted world wide. Tom.
Low:
Missing the bus, canceling our ski trip to Italy.
