Good Idea Natalie, Gram's recipe's archived.

Dad's favorite mincemeat pie.  Sadly, I think he will have to wait till he sees her in heaven to get this.  What a labor of love!
Blue Ribbon Pie from the Grant County Fair!!

Sadly a recipe that isn't all that good for you. (canned veggies/can mushroom soup)

Ahh, now this recipe I have been looking for!  Put in a baking pan and bake!  For sure will do this at Rehoboth beach, don't you think?

Gone

Today was a bit of a milestone....I threw out all my recipes.  Have I looked at them in the past 5 years?  No.  Do I still need them?  No.  But boy oh boy, what a memory lane.  The rest of this post you can probably skip.  Just for me to remember.
Recipes from college!  And ingredients that today people won't touch with a ten foot pole. (cookie recipe called for 1 c. shortening, 1 c sugar, 2 eggs, etc...or 1 c corn syrup/karo syrup in another)
Recall these:  Jello Salad!  Taco Salad! Layer Salad! Watergate salad!  Did we think they were healthy??  Must have b/c it had the word salad in it.   I even had a recipe for how to make gravy:  2 T flour, 1/2 C water, add to drippings (duh)  Some of the dressing recipes:  Oil, vinegar, sugar and add to bacon grease.  Are you serious?
How about the famous Green Chili Cassarole:  cream chicken soup, cream mushroom soup, cheese...all that really good stuff.  Cassaroles?  They are certainly a dish of the past.  I'm pretty sure my family ate these many a night for dinner.  Sorry!
Some recipes that the kids had written and put in the box.  (like snicker doodles)  Some of the recipes have names on them from people that I haven't even thought about or remembered since I wrote down their recipe!  Some people brought back some fun memories.
A sampling of names (this is just for me to remember):  Marie-Jeanne Gardner, Heidi Hilton, Liz Patrick, Deena and Julie and Laurel and Delys(college), Audrey Packer, Edna, Suzanne, Jeralene Heal, Betty Mele, Pearl Johnson, Debbie Herway, Kaye Bowles, Kelly Kimball, Charlotte Walton, Jenny Tomlinson, Nancy Scheppers, Mom Peterson, Louise Jolley, Donna Weiss, G.ma Taylor, Elaine Franklin, Melissa Carress, Janet Baker, Rexanne Mattei, Faye Watson, Emily Mulholland, Nancy Proctor, Mary King, Matt Hamilton, Lorrie Fedyzyn, Dixie Blake, Nicolette Hanko (Crofton)Kaylyn Keller, Betty from W.Va. (carmel popcorn), Aunt Lois, Roz Hawk, Beth Passey, Dennis Dabbs, Shauvan Semler, Renate McKendry, Janelle Simmons, Ann D'Leo, Isabelle Briner, Angela Bentham, Helen Packer, Kimi Fagg, Kathy Jolley, Collette Rinker, Carole Beplay, Zan Frederickson, Mary Malcolm, Barbara Hendleman, Pat Sheehy, Norma Evans, Sharlene Zoolakis, Renee Packer, Cindy Neibaur, Astrid Casares.

Here is the real question.  Was there anything that I kept?  I admit yes.  The ones of Edna in her own handwriting:
Edna's old Homemade stew
Grandma Susie's mincemeat
Strawberry Pie
Edna's Homemade chili sauce
Crab Imperial
And I kept the Cherry Pudding recipe of my G.ma Taylor (I'll never make it)
Two recipes the kids had in the box:  Honey pop corn balls and Snicherdooles (that's how it's spelled)
And two from Cindy Usevitch:
Pineapple Carrot Cake and Cinnamon Rolls

So what do you do when you are stuck in the house with nothing to do?  THIS!
I am actually surprised that the neon green recipe box made it from the college apartment, to Riverdale, to Crofton, to Annandale, to Tervuren, and even to our apartment in downtown Brussels.  Farewell.  Thanks for holding all those memories!

Now if I just had this kind of forced time to go through all the stuff in the Heber studio!  Oh I could have a tossing party like no other....

Yoga Chicks

Tammy, Linda, me, Tara and Brandy

Luckily I have good friends that come to visit.  They wheeled me to the pizzaria for an afternoon of chatting and laughs.  Then to the park to try to soak in some sun.  They think my moon boots will be the new fashion craze.  Thank goodness for the wheelchair, it allows much more freedom. I can now walk in the apartment with bare feet and it feels marvelous.  So far so good!  Thanks friends for an day out!!
