Mel,
You are right. Now I am sympathetic, and empathetic!
But correct me if I'm wrong here. After one day without one leg....
My lame observations (literally)
1)you break an arm, you give up one limb
2)you break a leg, you give up three limbs....the 2 arms are used for transporting now and cannot carry anything!
Having not broken an arm, set me straight (literally)
Were all these puns b/c I am writing to the Mel/Jake contingent????

Never had a broken bone....till now
It just happened so fast! Playing an awesome game of tennis. A very competitive game obviously. The ball went to one side of the court, the body to the other, but tried to correct....well, actually, I really don't know how it happened exactly. It just did. I heard the *crack*. I was hoping it was just a sprain, but after getting the x-rays, it's a fracture.
Not a broken ankle, although that was really swollen and painful. It was a bone in the foot! One of the outside bones. Lovely.
Dad is a very good nurse. I called him away from work and he came to the tennis club to rescue me. To the Doctor, to the clinic for x-rays and the cast.
So for one week I have this temporary cast. They left the front open to allow for more swelling. I am to be completely homebound for a week. No pressure whatsoever on the foot. Crutches. Lovely.
Next week I get the real cast. I get to have a walking cast, thank heavens. But not allowed to drive b/c....well, we do have a stick shift, but I'm not sure that will stop me entirely. But I'll try to be good.
Homebound for a month. Ummm.
We did have a ski week scheduled for next week. Canceled. Still, we put it off for a month. Hopefully I'll be back to normal by then. Wish me luck!

Elder Kid

Got an email from a guy named Jay Dial. He and his family used to live in Brussels about 15 years ago. He emails me and tells me that Steve is serving in his ward! Wow! He sent this email of Steve in action at church...with his cell phone I guess. Anyway, here we have the youngest Elder Herway...fully engaged there in Scotch Plains, NJ.
Jay Dial actually took Jacob to see Lance Armstrong before Lance became famous. At the time he was just a great biker. It was before he had even won one Tour de France. I know Jacob remembers Jay.
Anyway, small world in the church.

Coach Fiedler
Finally. I saw the coach Fiedler quote...the correct version. Although I admit I probably have never heard or read the correct version before. Coach always had 'BITE' in there~ It was posted on the mailroom bulletin board:
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.
Lara, Mel, Heidi....make sure Dan/Seth/Jake get it right!

Once Upon a Time

Thirty three years ago today, Tom and I were married. It's been quite an adventure to say the least. Remember the story? Both in the same ward at BYU. Tom is the activities director. He decides to go door-to-door to find out who is attending the ward camp-out. I was in my apartment, Regency #306 and it was his last door to knock on. I was home alone.
"Want to come in?"
"Sure."
We talk for several hours. I go to dance class the next day. In my class is Tom's fiancee, Dianne.
"Are you going to the camp-out?"
"No, I have to work."
Literally my heart did a flip-flop!
Campout.
Tom, "Do you want to go with me to find a hiking trail for the group to take tomorrow?"
Anita, "Sure."
The rest is history. You all have heard some of the embellishments. Some are true, some are not. The bottom line? We were lucky to find each other. We are blessed to love each other. It just keeps getting better.
So we start off. First picture of just the two of us and the famous yellow Vega. I was meeting Edna and Loren for the first time. The picture of Tom with Dan is when Dan is only hours old. Our first townhouse. Then Seth/Dan. Then Jake/Seth/Dan.
Move to Virginia. Go to next post....

part II

We loved Virginia. Tom works hard. All our money goes into the house. We have Natalie, then Nicole to add to Dan/Seth/Jacob. We love to go to the beach and to W.VA. We visit my family in the West about every 2 years. And then we move to Belgium. We have Steve. Our home in Belgium.
We love Belgium too. And the family grows up. And leave home. All of them....
