Davis Cup in Gent Belgium Nov 27-29, 2016

Belgium played host to Great Britain in the 2015 Davis Cup Final at the Flanders Expo in Ghent. It is the first time the Belgians have reached the final since 1904 and only the second time in history.

Great Britain has lifted the Davis Cup trophy on nine occasions. Its last title dates back to 1936 when Fred Perry and Bunny Austin were leading the team. Great Britain is the only nation that has participated in all the editions of the Davis Cup from 1900, although it competed under the name British Isles until 1912.   I got a kick out of all the Scottish kilts b/c Andy is really Scottish and he has a huge following.

Judy MurrayJudith "Judy" Murray (née Erskine; born 8 September 1959) is a Scottish tennis coach and current captain of the British Fed Cup team. She is also the mother of professional tennis players, Jamie and Andy Murray.  I had to look up her information but all my tennis friends knew exactly who she was.

King and Queen of Belgium  First time I have ever seen the King/Queen in real life in all the years we have been here.  King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.

David Goffin, Belgium's #1 player who played against Andy Murray in the final (but lost)  We saw him in the semi-finals against British Kyle Edmund and he won but Kyle gave him a great fight by winning the first two sets.

Andy Murray.  Incredible to watch somebody who is so good at what he does.  Magical.  We saw him play in the semi-finals against Belgium's #3 Reuben Bemelmans (who was really great as well)

Not so famous people:  my tennis friends.  Even though I feel more Belgian, with this group I had to back the Brits!

Very neat! I usually get these blog posts through my email, but for some reason I have missed the last few.

How FUN! Wish I could have tagged along. What a great moment for Belgium to make it that far. And how neat to see the King & Queen in real life.
